Australia’s favourites The Frowning Clouds are back with their long awaited second full-length, after two singles, a cassette, two European tours and sharing stages with The Black Lips, Pretty Things, The Sonics, Tame Impala and Thee Oh Sees since the last LP, Listen Closelier. It may have been a long time coming, but it’s definitely worth the wait.
Combining three guitars and three vocalists with a rock-solid backbeat clouded thick in jangled hooks and wobbly harmonies, we could say that they sound something like a mixture of Brian Jonestown Massacre mixing it up with Arthur Lee’s Love… or maybe The Black Lips jamming on the Byrds… a mixture of old and new sounds, done with a unique style, dynamic songwriting and breath-taking personality. Because above all, they sound like The Frowning Clouds.
This album is the result of the great period of creativity and grown that the band is living, 14 original songs that will dive the listener into new sounds never heard before. Whereabouts is definitely a departure from their previous full-length effort, affirming their position at the forefront of the new psychedelia and garage scene.
